MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MARYLAND

Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Committee has created the Weed Warriors program to educate those willing to help control invasive plants in Montgomery County.  Weed Warrior volunteers receive a short training session M-NCPPC Forest Ecologist. Weed Warriors then work in an M-NCPPC Stream Valley Park or Regional Park at their own pace and choose a schedule that best suits them .  To volunteer in these parks, follow this link:  Montgomery County - Weed Warriors

ARLINGTON COUNTY, VIRGINIA

The Remove Invasive Plants (RiP) volunteer group in Arlington County supports the Arlington County Invasive Plant Program.  RiP volunteers take part in hands-on removal of invasive plants, assist with education efforts, help with surveys, map target areas and help with program development.  To learn more, follow this link:

SLIGO CREEK PARK, MARYLAND

Friends of Sligo Creek has set up RIP, the Removing Invasive Plants Project. Its goal is to inform residents about the impact of invasive plants in the Park, and under Park approval to work with residents in removing them. PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MARYLAND

Besides these groups, there are occasional opportunities through other organizations.  Try an internet search for your state name or local park, “invasive plant”, and “volunteer” to find them.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VIRGINIA

The Fairfax County Parks Administration runs the Invasive Management Area program, a volunteer-led pilot project designed to reduce invasive plants in their parklands.  To learn more, follow this link:
